What You Should Know About Veneers

If your smile is not as bright and immaculate as you would like for it to be, you might want to think about getting dental veneers. Why get veneers, you ask? There are quite a few benefits to them, from having a more exact bite to showcasing a more flawless aesthetic.

Before you call our office to schedule your consultation, here is what you need to know about getting veneer treatment.

What Are Dental Veneers?

These are thin coverings that fit over your affected teeth. This treatment is perfect for small alterations to a tooth’s size, color, or shape. The most commonly used veneer materials out there include porcelain and composite.

Porcelain is a very durable and natural-looking material for your teeth. These do require that some of your enamel be removed from your natural tooth to help the veneer stay snugly in place. You’ll also need to use a special polishing paste for a porcelain veneer. However, with proper oral care, porcelain will look great for a good 15 years.

Composites are best for those who desire a cost-effective solution. In this process, a tooth-colored composite resin is used to construct the veneer. While composite material looks very natural, it does not last as long as porcelain.

Why Get Veneers?

So, why get veneers? Simply put, they can really enhance the overall aesthetic quality of your smile. They blend in well with your natural teeth, and they can last for about 10-15 years when properly cared for. They do not require much of any other maintenance, plus they do not stain as easily as your natural tooth enamel.

Veneers Cost and Procedure

Getting veneer treatment can range greatly in price. Typically, veneers cost around $800 to $2,000 per tooth. However, composites are more cost-effective and can last for years. Unfortunately, the veneers cost is not covered by most insurance policies, which is why some people delay getting them. But our office is happy to discuss the cost with you.

During your initial consultation at our office, your unique needs will be assessed. If you are determined to be a good candidate for a veneer procedure, you will have a small amount of enamel removed from each tooth needing a veneer. Impressions will be taken (unless you are getting composites; impressions aren’t needed for them), then the dental lab will need some time to create your veneer. After they’re finished, the lab will ship them to us, and you will get to come to get them applied.

In that second appointment, you can inspect the veneer for any possible flaws. You will get them permanently bonded into place with dental cement. Your dentist will check your bite to make sure everything fits perfectly. You will have almost no downtime and can go right back to your daily life afterward.
